A Rare Occasion, Mid-Week, Mid-Day Ride to Potato

Today I took the day off (well kinda, I ended up working from home until noon) and rode to Potato.  I started from my house and headed to Marshal Canyon.  From Marshal Canyon, I accessed the CWT and headed up to Potato.

I told myself to chill on this ride but ended up making it to Potato in great time.  Once at the top, I was soaked.  The ride was great, the weather was great, and the view from the top...

Today is Halloween so I finished the day by taking the kids Trick or Treating.  We stuck to our neighborhood and needless to say the kids scored!

Shame on Me! Lance Armstrong Content

I usually don't like these and I am still iffy on the whole Lance Armstrong issue but ... This is pretty funny.

Iffy - A lot of people, cyclists and non-cyclist, have asked me what I think about the whole issue.  Truthfully, I don't know.  I don't want to believe it but it's out there. I don't really even want to think about.  I wonder what we will remember about Lance Armstrong in 1, 2, 5, 10 years from now.

SOLD: GT Rebound Conversion

Meme put this one together.  18" GT Rebound SS conversion.  Simple, dependable and clean.  Drop me an email if interested.

$80.00

Sold Sold Sold!

Adam is the new proud owner of Meme's GT Rebound SS conversion!

I hope this bike gives Adam lots good years, many miles and endless tales while on the road.

My advice to Adam is ride, ride, ride.  It always pains me to hear of a bike wasting away in the garage, shed our even worse, outside.

Meme did a great job converting this bike.  GT's are Meme's specialties.  He's got a few more.  Send me and email if you are looking for a bike to get around town.

Diamond Bar to Newport Beach - FIXED

Saturday Michael, John and I rode our track bikes to Newport.  We had a tailwind to push us down SART until about 8 miles before Newport. At 8 miles to Newport it switched on us and made things difficult.

After the last bridge we caught the tail of a reluctant Tri-Guy.  I say reluctant because it was pretty obvious he didn't want us in his draft and pushed out to let us pass.  Unfortunately he had a good clip going and it was difficult to get in front. Michael was able to pull ahead of him and Tri-Guy conveniently slipped in between Michael and I.  I guess he wasn't happy about pulling for us, but was all to quick to slip into Michael's draft.

I held third position until Tri-Guy started showing signs of fatigue.  I picked up the pace, got behind Michael and soon enough Tri-Guy dropped off the back.

Once in Newport we refueled and headed back.  Michael flatted early on and it took a while to change his tire.  The wind was blowing in all directions.  Sometimes we had a tailwind and other times it was a headwind.  At the Honda Center the wind decided against us and it was a headwind the rest of the way home.

Wow, some great classic, vintage BMX bikes.  A BMX build for my son needs to be my next build project.

Specialized E - Cages

I bought two Specialized E Cages the other day. They have a nice TI (or brushed finish).  Let's see if they stand the test of time.

These water bottle cages are, for the most part, the final touches for my latest project.  Once my project is completed I will post pictures.

Despite his sons’ podium finish in the 2011 Tour de France, Andy Schleck’s win in the 2010 edition and the other successes they have clocked during their careers, the events of 2012 have prompted Johny Schleck to give an utterly unexpected piece of advice: give up the sport.

“I advised them to quit cycling,” the former pro told French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche. He indicated that Andy Schleck’s injury problems this season and Frank Schleck’s doping positive for a diuretic in the Tour de France were the reasons. It is unclear if the fallout from the US Postal Service scandal is also a factor, given that it has brought a lot of negative headlines of late.

Bike Polo @ LA Fairgrounds

Lots of things happening this weekend in Pomona. Of the many events was a Bike Polo Tournament.  This brought out a motley group of people, close contact and frankenbikes.

Spooky Cross at the LA Fairgrounds

So many racers and a great course, CX racing is turning into my favorite thing to do.  Just right behind riding my track bike.

This course was my favorite course so far.  The BMX style layout in the middle was sick.

Since I raced, this was the only picture I took.

Mobbin' Mondays, Lot 9 Criterium

Sometimes the fastest man doesn't win the race.  Click Here For More Photos ...

At one point James lapped the field, only to go down on slippery blacktop

The winners, Tony 1st and Alvin 2nd.  They were the only two to stay upright.

The Rules. Daniel briefing the racers.

An Unconventional Ride Through the Parking Lot

I had the opportunity to ride an Elliptigo the other day.  It was pretty awkward, weird, unnatural, but unusually fun.  I am not ready to ditch the my traditional bikes for it, but it was something different.

Are You Dissapointed, Do You Feel Lied Too?

I am not sure about Lance Armstrong and all that is happening.

Remember this commercial? Nike Lance Armstrong Click Here For the Video ...

This is the parody given all that is coming out ...Nike Lance Armstrong Parody, Click Here For the Video ...

I've read bits and pieces.  It seems bad for Lance, bad for Levi, but bad for US cycling?  I am not sure.  I think US cycling has moved past Lance and his influence.

Ride on! $20 Cardboard Bike May Go into Production Soon

Title: Ride on! $20 Cardboard Bike May Go into Production Soon

I've seen this floating around FB and other news sources.  Kevin found this on LA Times.

"Are you ready to ride the cardboard bike?

Israeli inventor Izhar Gafni has created a functioning cardboard bicycle that he hopes to put into mass production in the next three months, according to a Reuters report.

Despite being made almost entirely of cardboard, Gafni says the bike is strong, durable, fireproof and waterproof. And because it is made of cardboard, it will also be cheap. Gafni's business partner Nimrod Elmish told Reuters that he expects the bike to sell at retail stores for $20." Read More ...
