Ride a bike, share your experience and love. When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day's sensations: bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay's call, ice melting and so on. This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind and focus on nature instead. I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity. But I am mentally far away from civilization. The world is breaking someone else's heart. ~Diane Ackerman

Porte touted as Tour de France contender

This is an early prediction.  I think it has some merit but unlikely.  Giro yes, TdF no.

"Australian cycling star Richie Porte is on the verge of leading the powerful Sky team at the Tour de France.

His coach Tim Kerrison, who has been one of the keys to Sky's domination of the Tour, freely nominates Porte as their successor to Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome.

Wiggins was the first British rider to win the Tour in 2012 and Froome won last year, with Porte one of his key lieutenants.

Porte will lead a Grand Tour team for the first time this May when he is Sky's main rider at the Giro d'Italia."

How To Be A Road Biker

#SVENNESS 2.15

#SVENNESS 2.15 from In The Crosshairs on Vimeo.
For episode 2.15, SVENNESS makes a stop at the Belgian National Cyclocross Championships, which took place at the Gaverbeek Hippodrome in Waregem, West Flanders, Belgium. The race takes place on a flat track with several flyovers and drainage ditches. It is a bit muddy and there is one long stretch of sand that plays an important role in this race.

We focus on the sand, the planks, the attrition of an already small field and the solidification of a legend. For the Belgian elite race, only racers who have full-time contracts are allowed to compete. That means the field is only 14 deep. The elites without contracts race a minute after the full-time pros start their race.

This episode is presented by Skills Drills and Bellyaches: A Cyclocross Primer, which is available at www.cyclocrossbook.com.

SVENNESS is also presented by CrossVegas. Find out more at www.crossvegas.com.

SVENNESS t-shirts remain on sale at www.SVENNESS.com. Quantities are limited.

"Readers continue to weigh in on the 3-feet for Safety Act, which will require drivers to maintain a 3-foot buffer when passing to the left of bicyclists on the road beginning in September.

Several local residents sought clarification on the law depending on various scenarios.

tdsdc5-6dbbf7t7l3c19dognghs_layoutWhat happens if a bicyclist is the one riding close to traffic, particularly when cars are stopped when they have a red light?

Does a driver need to move further away if a bicyclist is on the far left edge of a bicycle lane, but inside the lane nonetheless?

"PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — California cyclists are concerned about the ambiguity of a new law effective in 2014 that was created to ensure their safety.

Beginning Sept. 16, motorists will be required to maintain a 3-foot buffer between themselves and bicyclists when they pass cyclists traveling in the same direction. If not enough space is available, the motorist must slow down and pass "when no danger is present to the bicyclist," according to the California Department of Motor Vehicles."

Who needs viagra when you got a bike! Bicycling is the cure for ED.

"This biker popped more than a wheelie.

A 22-year-old Irishman experienced a seven-week erection after crashing his mountain bike, according to the Irish Examiner.

The injury, which was reported in the January edition of the Irish Medical Journal, occurred after the man fell onto the crossbar of the bike. When he finally got around to seeking medical attention five weeks later, he told doctors he had an erection the entire time."

Riding the Festive 500 in one big fat ride from Paris (FR) to Haarlem (NL)

Riding the Festive 500 in one big fat ride from Paris (FR) to Haarlem (NL) - #inonego from Rotgans & Rotgans on Vimeo.
Somewhere during Festive 500 2012 my tortured mind came up with the idea to simply do Festive 500 in one ride and “get it over with”. A year later that idea hasn’t left my head. So that’s where this brilliant (and by brilliant, i mean stupid) idea to ride Festive 500 in one ‘go’ came from. And to make this ‘easier’ I figured out that I’d start somewhere that is about 500 km from home and ride back. Paris was as random as any other '500km away from home' location could have been. Only later the route turned out to coincide with the prevailing wind.

This is our story.

#SVENNESS 2.13

#SVENNESS 2.13 from In The Crosshairs on Vimeo.
Episode 2.13 of #SVENNESS takes a look at the UCI Cyclocross World Cup race that took place December 26, 2013, at Heusden-Zolder. This race features the return of former 2 time elite cyclocross world champion Zdeněk Štybar. The race is in the red from the start with Štybar, LvdH, Marcel Miesen, Rob Peeters and Phillipp Walsleben pushing the pace. Ep 2.13 focuses on a crazy start, the ongoing tops vs. drops debate, and the tactic of "go." No mud, no sand, a tough run-up, a killer descent and some super high-speed racing. The only thing this racing is a Sven vs. Niels battle. But it's nice to bring in some other characters for a week.

#SVENNESS is presented by Skills, Drills and Bellyaches: A Cyclocross Primer available at www.cyclocrossbook.com and CrossVegas, America's largest cyclocross race, which takes place September 10, 2014, under the lights in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Please help support #SVENNESS by picking up the latest SVENNESS t-shirt. Check out the design at www.svenness.com.
