Knobby Tire Series, 2nd Place Finish

Today was the fourth race in the Knobby Tire Series at Bonelli. It was a smaller crowd.  I took 2nd place out of six, beginner men 30 to 39.

Matt and David were there for support.  Stan with Gear Cycle Wear was out selling. Met Eric. This was his second time racing. He took third.

It was a fun race and nice to see my race friends.

Knobby Time, "Back By Popular Demand!"

Knobby Time XC Series is coming back to Bonelli Park Aug 4, Aug 18 and Sept 1, 2011.

The Knobby Time is a great mid-week racing series located at Bonelli Park. Bonelli can be easily accessed from the 60, 71, 210, and 10 FWY.

I raced the last three in June and had a blast. I met some really cool people with a shared passion for fitness and cycling. I even met a fellow Blogger, The Claremont Cyclists.

In June, I placed 4th, 5th and flatted on the third race resulting in a DNF. I want to at least get on the podium this time around!

Knobby Time XC Series, Race #3. (DNF)

Well there is a first time for everyone. Race 3, I pulled out the full suspension and, well, flatted! Despite being very disappointed with my non finish, I did meet a fellow blogger, Michael of The Claremont Cyclist. Michael took tons of pictures, more race pics here.

Antonio's daughters were out to see him take first overall and win the series. Antonio and I talked about racing the Over The Hump Series, but Tuesdays aren't going to work for me.

Knobby Tire Series, Bonelli Park (Race 2)

I decided to race again this Thursday. Turn out seemed about the same despite the heat. There were the usual suspects, David, Antonio, Matt, and many other familiar faces. Race Junkies I guess. Bryant came out to race his Single Speed.

It was hot. Really hot. Somewhere between lap two and the finish, I was asking myself, why. Why am I doing this, why did I choose my rigid hardtail, why, why, why!

I was exhausted but still managed a fifth place finish out of eleven. I really want to get on the "Podium", though.


Antonio managed to Kill the competition again. I think he had the best time overall.

Knobby Tire Series @ Bonelli Race# 2 June 23, 2011

I'm ready for more! Race Info Here ...

I was surprised how much climbing there was and how much single track I've missed out on at Bonelli. I've been riding Bonelli since 1993 but never ventured off the main fire roads. My Bonelli ride consists of the 12 mile perimeter loop. Its almost 100% Fireroad.

This course was bumpy, with steep technical climbs, and fast descents on sketchy single track.

I can't wait to take some of my MTB buddies on this course.

During the race a few guys crashed (I was one of them too). One guy crashed hard on the rock garden section. When I caught up to him, he was walking slowly and holding his collarbone/shoulder. All he could say is, "Yep, I think I'm hurt pretty bad, yep pretty bad." Fortunately, someone was already helping him down and another walking his bike to the nearby medic.

Overall it was a great race and I'm ready for next week. I guess, I ought to do a MTB ride this weekend. Team V is doing a last minute 70 mile ride tomorrow. Doh, I think I will miss that one.

Knobby Tire Series at Bonelli Park

A few weeks ago I ran into Antonio, MTB extraordinaire. He handed me a flier for the Knobby Tire Series at Bonelli Park. This is a three race series at Bonelli Park, June 16, 23 and 30. I decide what the heck, I'll do it. It was a good course, technical and with lots of climbs. Racing my 26" rigid MTB kicks my butt every time. At one point, I was so tired, I lost control on the decent and crashed. The bumps really wear me out!
