Fargo Street Hill Climb March 6, 2011 (Part Four)
This guy had the right idea, a head cam! I wanted to take a picture, while riding up, at least 15 feet from the apex. The only problem was I was spending so much energy holding on, balancing and trying to keep a forward motion, I had little left to pull the camera out, let along snap the picture!
Is pink the new black or black the new pink? I'm so confused.
Skinny tires and mountain bike gearing. I think this was the winning formula!

Below - I can't remember this guys name but we went up Fargo Street together a few times. UPDATE - This is MARSHALL! Great Job, next year lets do > 20!

Status Update: Project Tall Bike
My Tall Bike project is coming along. Last Thursday, I took the bikes to G&M in Corona to get sandblasted. All the paint was removed and the frames are ready to be hacked and welded. I love the clean look of sandblasted steel. The bikes looks so clean and raw, I almost was tempted to NOT make a Tall Bike and RE-CYCLE these to some sweet mountain bikes.
No, no, I must keep focused. Nick and I went to Aircraft Spruce to pick up some cromoly steel to extend the head tube and steerer tubes. Aircraft Spruce is such a neat place. We were only allowed in the showroom but I would love to look around the warehouse!
Need Steel, Cromoly or Aluminum Tubing, Aircraft Spruce is the place to go. 8 feet of CROMO set me back $24.00.
Nick is busy hacking and grinding away. I wanted the GT Outpost to be on the bottom to preserve the signature GT styling but Nick is the boss. He hacked the rear seat and chain-stays. I guess the GT Outpost will be the top.
GT HACKED!
Stay Tuned, so much more to come. Tomorrow we install the cranks to get an idea of chain line and to see if the arms will interfere with the Seat stays.

There were a number of Adobo Velo guys out there today. This guy was mashing his way to a record climb. I wonder how many times he made it up.

Fargo Street Hill Climb March 6, 2011 (Part Two)
By way of Recumbent. This looks extremely hard. With most of the weight in the rear, I am not sure how he managed to get up without falling back.
By way of Elliptical-Bike. This guy made it up a few times.
So weird, the Elliptical Bike drew quite a crowd of supporters.
Peace. The first climb hurt, but after I started feeling better.
50 Years Old and up Fargo Street 50 Times before calling it a day. These guys ROCK!
I managed 15 times up. Next year > 20?

Fargo Street Hill Climb March 6, 2011 (Part One)
The videos on YouTube and all the pictures in the world do no justice in capturing the STEEPNESS of Fargo Street in Los Angeles. At 33% Grade, Fargo Street is the second steepest hill in the USA. According to some, its the third steepest in the world.
Today Kevin and I set out on the annual Fargo Street Hill Climb. It was tough and I managed to climb it 15 times before calling it quits. I think I had 5 to 10 more climbs in me, but I needed to get home.
By 8:45 am, many riders started gathering around to take on Fargo Street. I'm guessing there were easily over 100 riders.
Kevin, signed his life away and is ready for his climb. This hill is STEEEEEPPPPP!
Below, these guys are deciding on how best to climb up. Most zigzagged up the hill. It was just to steep to ride straight up.
Below - Looks like the Captain lost his Stroker!

Zigzag, zigzag up and up Fargo Street. If you plan to do more than 3 climbs, its best to zigzag up.
Below - This guy holds the record for the only one to ride up on one wheel.

Fargo Street Challenge, What's so Special About Fargo Street?
No, no you won't find Steve Buscemi at the top next to a wood chipper. What you will find is a steep ass hill. This is the second steepest hill in the USA with an average grade of over 30%.

Skateistan: To Live and Skate Kabul
So my thought on this is let kids play, be happy and worry free. In Kabul, doing this is not easy and unlikely. You can see the happiness in these kids eyes when on top of a skateboard. Even the Soldier in the last third of the clip is smiling.
