Ride a bike, share your experience and love. When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day's sensations: bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay's call, ice melting and so on. This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind and focus on nature instead. I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity. But I am mentally far away from civilization. The world is breaking someone else's heart. ~Diane Ackerman

Rush Hour in the Netherlands

Is this what happens when citizens, city planners and the entire community is committed to true change? What a great contrast to the city I live in.

"Morning rush hour in the 4th largest city in the Netherlands. Streets look like this when 33% of ALL trips are made by bicycle!"

Pomona to Azusa Canyon to East Fork to GMR to Mt Baldy, oh My!

Text Message Chain Friday 24, 2011:

Jason: Did u do crit last night

Mike: No haven't done it in a couple weeks. Its fun. But it's also pure pain. Are u riding.

Jason: Yeah not sure of ride destination. I raced last night. Tired today.

Mike: MTB right. Let me know what u plan to do. I'm up for some more leisurely too. I've bee sick this week so that might be better.

Jason: How about a GMR to Mt. Baldy recovery ride. Relax Pace.

Mike: Yeah perhaps. Or maybe East Fork to Baldy.

Jason: U r crazy. That's like sixty miles.
(Sixty miles of lots of climbing!)

We decided on East Fork to Mt Baldy. We headed out about 7 am to Azusa Canyon. Riding up Azusa I was fine, but by the time we got to East Fork, I my legs were feeling tight. The trek up Little GMR did me in.

I was cursing Mike in my head and mentally writing all the horrible things I was going to say about Mike and his GREAT idea to ride to Baldy via East Fork. Why, why why. Mike's a nut, so when I got to East Fork and GRR...

"Officer, I swear it was the heat that made me do. I was delirious from the heat, I could not control my hands... and I reached for his neck and... I swear I couldn't help myself...

Might as well! If I can strangle Mike why can't Annette strangle me! I think the heat was getting to both of us. Hey Annette, great job on making it to Mt. Baldy.

Annette described to us Ron's crash. I hope he recovers soon but it sounds like he took a bad fall. She also talked a little about the BUGS, all the lovely bugs that pester us as we ride.

South on Amelia Ave., and then left on Route 66, I spotted a Black Toyota Highlander. It was parked 3 feet from the curb, with strobe light on top and traffic cones every where to direct traffic. Could it be none other than Richard, my father-in-law! Sure enough it was him.

A trip down memory lane. On Foothill we came upon an old Chevy Nova. I had to stop as this was the same color and year as the Nova I owned. My first car was a beat up Chevy Nova I brought back to life. Like the one pictured, I painted my Nova canary yellow. Wow. Jamie got a kick out of the pictures of this Nova when I showed them to her.

Mike and I ended our ride short. From East Fork and GRR we (Or rather I) decided to head down GMR and back home to Pomona. Total trip distance, 54 miles.

Knobby Tire Series, Bonelli Park (Race 2)

I decided to race again this Thursday. Turn out seemed about the same despite the heat. There were the usual suspects, David, Antonio, Matt, and many other familiar faces. Race Junkies I guess. Bryant came out to race his Single Speed.

It was hot. Really hot. Somewhere between lap two and the finish, I was asking myself, why. Why am I doing this, why did I choose my rigid hardtail, why, why, why!

I was exhausted but still managed a fifth place finish out of eleven. I really want to get on the "Podium", though.

Antonio managed to Kill the competition again. I think he had the best time overall.

Bryant took Third in Open Single Speed

The Family came out to support Daddy.

Matt resting with a post game Beer? No it can't be beer?

Me next to Antonio. I need to ride with this guy more often.

Frannie and Daddy

Antonio and his daughter Crystal.

Carl came out to watch the race.

David moved up a class and finished fifth in Sport Men 30 to 39. Good Job!

Armani: Does Armani Know Bikes?

Not sure what this means for the cycling craze/fad of fixed gear bikes. Is this the end?

OR did the craze/fad start its downward spiral when Walmart started carrying Fixed Gear Bikes?

BikeForums.Net GMR to Mt Baldy Ride

I wasn't sure where I was going to ride this Sunday. I was torn between Bonelli MTB, Beach SART or GMR to Mt Baldy. Well, Mr Beanz posted a BikeForums.net GMR Ride and the decision was made.

I met up with BikeForums.net riders off GMR and Boulder Springs. No Mr Beanz though.

It was a great ride and Calamari Chris, kept the pace fast all the way up to the Maintenance Shed. We regrouped and then headed to Mt. Baldy.

At about Fork Plus 4, I new I was in trouble. My legs were starting to cramp. By Fork Plus 6, the legs were cramping bad. I had to pull over a few times to message the cramps out. Oh the pain!

Overall it was a great ride and I hope to do it again.

BikeForum.net Riders included Jimmy NH, Genaro, JMX, Calamari Chris, John C, Aprevo, and please help me out with the other rider's names...

Knobby Tire Series @ Bonelli Race# 2 June 23, 2011

I'm ready for more! Race Info Here ...

I was surprised how much climbing there was and how much single track I've missed out on at Bonelli. I've been riding Bonelli since 1993 but never ventured off the main fire roads. My Bonelli ride consists of the 12 mile perimeter loop. Its almost 100% Fireroad.

This course was bumpy, with steep technical climbs, and fast descents on sketchy single track.

I can't wait to take some of my MTB buddies on this course.

During the race a few guys crashed (I was one of them too). One guy crashed hard on the rock garden section. When I caught up to him, he was walking slowly and holding his collarbone/shoulder. All he could say is, "Yep, I think I'm hurt pretty bad, yep pretty bad." Fortunately, someone was already helping him down and another walking his bike to the nearby medic.

Overall it was a great race and I'm ready for next week. I guess, I ought to do a MTB ride this weekend. Team V is doing a last minute 70 mile ride tomorrow. Doh, I think I will miss that one.

Pictures from Face Book, Gear Cycle Wear. Thanks Stan for taking pictures!
